In a nutshell, what is your company all about?
Midwest Systems is a local Drayage company serving the local Intermodal Industry since 1943. Also handles Exports / Imports – Warehousing - Trucking
What is your position in the company, what do you do?
Consulting and part time sales and I am retired from 2 companies after working in the International Business Arena for over 50 years. I still enjoy meeting companies and helping them learn more about Exporting or Importing.
What makes your company different from other companies in your industry?
Midwest Systems in 1966 purchased Middle States Mobile Fleet Maintenance to start the mobile truck and trailer preventative maintenance division. Under the same ownership, River Roads distributing Co. was incorporated in 1959. Midwest Systems and River Roads operate on approximately 60 acres of property in the Hall Street area.
Justin Williamson and Tom Lynch sold their interest in Midwest Systems in 2010 to their sons, Steve and Mike but are still co-owners of River-Roads Sales and Leasing which continue to sell / lease new and used trailers, flat beds and containers to the transportation industry and Midwest Systems Trailer Repair which repairs various equipment for the transportation industry.
Locally owned by a family who has served the International community since 1943.
What was your company's most recent greatest accomplishment?
Midwest Systems celebrated its 70th year anniversary in 2013. The founders and President turned over the business to their sons and keeping the company a family run business. This past year Justin Williamson received a Life Time Achievement Award from the Transportation industry. The Lifetime Achievement Award is a very special award given to individuals who have contributed unselfishly to the Transportation and International Community.
What is the biggest challenge you face in your industry?
Working to serve our customers when the weather conditions are very dangerous but continue to make every effort to deliver their goods in a timely manner.
Why are you a GOITA Member?
I was one of the original founders of the Greater Ozark International Trade Association along with Angie Kinworthy, Joe Jenkins, Les Boll, Sandy Gerley, and several others to form an organization to help exporters either learn how to export or help them with problems in international shipping, banking, forwarding, export orders, contacting overseas customers or help then with any international problems that may come up. I am still on the Board of Directors and currently have taken over the Web Page and I am asking for your help in letting me know what you would like on the site so we can make it better for all who may need advise with their international concerns. I look forward to hearing from you and will work hard to make the site worthwhile.
